As we take stock of the year 1997 - a year which has brought fundamental change both in the United States and abroad - it is notable to see that child care has taken on new meaning around the world. The trends can be characterized by exponential leaps in technology and a return to the values and considerations of past generations. At ICRI, we have seen and participated in a diversity of rich and valuable child care experiences around the world.


World Trends - The Arrival of the Internet As a Child Care Resource

This was the year that confirmed the power and pervasive nature of child care in the world through its extensive documentation on the internet. One popular search engine for accessing information from the internet is the Infoseek system. This search company lists 115,448 pages of information using the words child care together. From national clearing houses on child care in several countries to an individual family day care provider in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska (with a remarkable web page offering child care to tourists coming on fishing expeditions with children), the internet highlights the diversity of the child care field.
