Funding is always a concern for child care centers. It doesn’t matter whether the program is nonprofit or for-profit, privately owned or corporate-sponsored, large or small, there never seems to be enough money to cover personnel expenses and purchase equipment and materials. Most child care directors depend on federal or state allocations, parent fees, and fundraising to meet financial needs. The idea of securing additional funds through grant writing is often not a consideration because the process seems overwhelming, and often the director is not aware of grants as a source of additional funding. If your program is seeking additional funding, grant writing might be your answer. This article will address two aspects to securing funds through grant writing: first, how to apply for grants and second, where to apply.
