A team of teachers, plant experts, aide workers, and researchers will launch a project to help young Afghans regain a feeling of responsibility and appreciation for native and medicinal plants and herbs. As decades of war have devastated Afghanistan’s infrastructure and natural environment, traditional methods of using plants for soaps, dyes, and medicine have been lost. The project’s goal is to help children “learn about the way things were done in Afghanistan before the wars: how people were able to live off the earth, respecting every living thing as a useful part of a healthy life.” More than 70 other teams with equally inspiring projects will be joining them at the Forum, which is sponsored by the Nature Action Collaborative for Children, a World Forum Foundation Working Group.
Multi-disciplinary teams of educators, environmentalists, design professionals, and health care workers will begin projects focused on helping children develop the kinds of deep connections with the natural world that will inspire them to become our world’s next generation of committed environmental stewards.
