The creation of an Emergency/Crisis Plan is not exactly the most pleasant task to contemplate. Consider, however, the Chinese medical philosophy of prevention rather than treatment - where possible! Therefore, look upon this distasteful project as something that may prevent what we all dread.

This was pointed out to me in the most dramatic fashion just as I started to write this article. A couple of months ago I had the opportunity to visit a child care center in a prestigious Florida office park. Any one of us would have been proud to call this new facility ours - all the latest equipment and amenities, all the finest design qualities, all built into a beautiful building that was inviting, warm, and interesting.

Today I heard from the owner of that center. She was distraught - and with good reason. Her beautiful new center had burned; the loss was enormous. Worse, there was a question of arson, though luckily no one was hurt. I was called because the owner had remembered my speaking about our own emergency plan and, although she had never implemented one of her own, she wanted hurry-up help to do one right ...
