My passion for child care began 20 years ago when I moved back to my childhood home with my 10-month-old little girl and another on the way. I had recently left an unhealthy relationship in an unhealthy environment in the hopes of building a loving home to raise my family. I had several opportunities to return to work; however, as a first-time parent my expectations were very high. I looked for child care locally, but struggled to find exactly what I was looking for. While searching for child care, I discovered that my expectations and requirements for where I wanted my children to grow were driven by my own childhood experience — the wonderful feelings of family, community, belonging, and the connection to nature I grew up with. I wanted all of this for my children; a place where they would feel safe, loved, and free to explore the world around them. This is what led me home.

My parents were excited to have us home. My dad was a traveling salesman and oftentimes my mom was home alone in our three-story house. My parents had six children, so the idea of bringing more children into their home was exciting to them ...
