Technology Standards for Teachers
September 29, 2005
The heart is the first feature of working minds.
-Frank Lloyd Wright

Chip Donohue offers this technology update:

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has defined National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) and Performance Indicators for Teachers.  Building on the NETS for Students, the ISTE NETS for Teachers (NETS•T) focus on preservice teacher education and define the fundamental concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes for applying technology in educational settings.

NETS•T defines six standards areas with performance indicators that provide specific outcomes to be measured when developing assessment tools.  The standards and performance indicators can also provide guidelines for experienced teachers.

The six standards areas are:

• Technology Operations and Concepts

• Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences

• Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum

• Assessment and Evaluation

• Productivity and Professional Practice

• Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues

To read and download a copy of the NETS•T go to http://cnets.iste.org/teachers/t_stands.html.

For more information on technology standards and performance indicators for administrators, students, and teachers visit the ISTE web site at www.iste.org.
