'Roots' to Excellent Staff Development
October 10, 2005
Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.
-Carl Jung

The National Child Care Information Center, a service of the Child Care Bureau, has an interesting schematic model of the elements of a professional development system for Early Care and Education: a simplified framework.

In the schematic of a large tree complete with Roots, Trunk -- two spreading branches and expansive leaves, they have put together key elements to an effective professional development system.

The Roots are Funding

The Trunk is Core Knowledge

The Left Branch is Credentials and Qualifications

The Right Branch is Quality Assurance

The Over-Arching Leaves are Access and Outreach

NCCIC also includes an outlined framework that details each of the elements of this schematic model. This could be a very effective tool to assist in staff development initiatives. “Branch out!” Take a look!
