Portraits of Afghan Children
February 11, 2014
It’s not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.
-L. R. Knost

When we see Afghanistan in the news, it's all about terrorists, drone attacks, car bombs, and corrupt politicians. But we don't see the children. Around 1.6 million Afghan refugees live within Pakistan's borders, making up one of the world's largest refugee communities. Because of the turmoil, generations of Afghan children have been growing up in Pakistan, never going to school and uncertain of their future. Now Muhammed Muheisen enables us to see the children who are impacted by this prolonged period of conflict. View his portraits.

This book contains stories of hope and encouragement, and just what early childhood practitioners can do and achieve in the face of adversity. Contained are chapters from Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Chad, Colombia, Nepal, Northern Ireland, Palestine, and the United States. From Conflict to Peace Building shows us that it is possible to make a real difference in the lives of children and families in societies affected by conflict.
