- It's not developmentally appropriate.

- Babies don't read, they memorize.
- Reading instruction is too formal for babies who learn best through play.
- Other areas of development suffer.

I agree that it is a mistake to teach babies and young children to read too early. Once you learn to read, you quickly view the world differently. There is quite a lot to learn about the world that is useful information before seeing it in words.
