Favorite Children's Stories – FOR REAL
May 25, 2004

"When indeed shall we learn that we are all related one to the other, that we are all members of one body?  Until the spirit of love for our fellow men, regardless of race, color or creed, shall fill the world, making real in our lives and our deeds the actuality of human brotherhood-until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained." - Helen Keller

Favorite Children's Stories -- For Real

Last Thursday we sent out the message below prematurely. Now we are ready... for real this time... to register your votes. And, we have added the books that you suggested to us last week.  Sorry for the mix-up.

Sometimes the most important tasks are the most fun. Promoting children's literacy can be significantly advanced by reading aloud to preschool children frequently and with enthusiasm.  By reading books you enjoy to preschool children you encourage their interest in reading through their joy in predictable rhymes and repeated phrases, through surprising anticipating and being surprised by story developments, through saying aloud fun words and sounds, and through participating in a shared social experience.

We want to know your favorite books for reading aloud to preschoolers. We know that if you don't enjoy reading a book, you won't engage the enthusiasm of the children. I remember the pleasure of reading to our children Noisey Nora and A Flower Pot is Not a Hat, and most of all the charming books of Robert Munsch, The Paper Bag Princess, Mortimer and Mud Puddle. Tell us your favorite read-aloud books, and learn about the favorite books of your peers, by participating in the Exchange Insta-Poll at http://mail.ccie.com/go/eed/0194.
