Great Resource for Leaders
November 16, 2004
"True conversation is an interpenetration of worlds, a genuine intercourse of souls, which doesn't have to be self-consciously profound but does have to touch matters of concern to the soul." - Thomas Moore in Soul Mates

Great Resource for Leaders

There is certainly no dearth of books on leadership today.  It seems every millionaire has his or her own book proclaiming their own magic formula for achieving success.  Yet these books seem to accomplish little more than to increase the wealth of the authors.  Every once in a while a management book stands out from the crowd.  This is certainly the case with Jim Collins', Good to Great (New York:  Harper Business, 2001).

Good to Great oulines how companies researched by Collins have moved from being simply good companies to great companies.  In explaining their road to success, Collins presents findings on...

*  the types of leadership required to achieve greatness
*  how companies must transcend the curse of competence
*  combining the culture of discipline with an ethic of entreprenuership
*  the role of technology
* "the Flywheel and the Doom Loop"
