Focusing on Body Fat Not Weight

Writing in the February 1, 2005 issue of BottomLine Personal (www.BottomLineSecrets.com), Terry Grossman observes that reducing body fat is more important than losing weight. He observes...

"Some fat tissue is necessary. Fat is the body's primary form on energy and is necessary to cushion vital organs. Too much fat, however, secretes inflammatory chemicals that age your body....I keep my carbohydrate intake under 30% of total calories and emphasize fish, lean meats, vegetables, tofu and miso soup. This is similar to the diet of the people in the Okinawa region of Japan, which has more 100-year-olds than any place in the world and very little serious disease."
