Staff Development? Try a National Conference!
December 27, 2005
The growth of the human mind is still high adventure, in many ways the highest adventure on earth.
-Norman Cousins

December 7-10, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) held its annual conference in Washington, DC.  This year over 900 presentations, seminars, and special programs provided the state of the art in Early Care and Education.  A few statistics follow.  There were: 60 presentations related to Early Childhood Training and Professional Development Support, 79 presentations related to Early Childhood Curriculum, 26 presentations related to Professional Preparation in Two and Four Year Higher Education Programs, 44 presentations related to the Administration of Early Childhood Programs, 83 presentations related to Early Language and Literacy, and 49 presentations were geared for Infant/Toddler educators.  And that doesn't include other topics like Parent/Family Relationships and Support, Play, Learning Settings and Materials, Kindergarten, Child Development, Cultural/Linguistic Diversity, Children with Disabilities, Early Learning Standards/Accountability, Health and Safety, Accreditation of Programs for Young Children, Advocacy/Public Policy, Challenging Behaviors, Family Child Care, Diversity/Equity, Primary Grades, Social/Emotional Competence . . . . You get the idea!  Consider a national conference . . . you'll be glad you did!
