Centre of Excellence
February 2, 2006
Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater.
-Gail Godwin

As a graduate student, I was the teaching assistant for a psychology course where the most recent research presented by the professor was 10 years old. I vowed that I would never refer to yellowed lecture notes when I became a course director.

As an educator of future Early Childhood Educators, I strive to impart knowledge that is consistent with current research. At times, I am challenged by time constraints that impose barriers to my up-to-the-minute knowledge of early child development.

The Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Development in Montreal, Canada has launched an initiative to keep professionals current in their understanding of early childhood. EARLY CHILDHOOD A-Z offers an encyclopedia of research synopses across a broad range of topics that includes the findings from brain studies, parenting programs, and community-based research. EARLY CHILDHOOD A-Z features the work of leading researchers in North America and abroad and, each year, the centre publishes the top 10 of the best Canadian research in the field of early childhood.

This is an important resource that supports the sharing of current knowledge with educators, parents, and practitioners. To access EARLY CHILDHOOD A-Z, visit www.excellence-earlychildhood.ca.
