Wisdom of Martin Luther King, Jr.
January 18, 2016
The ultimate gift we can give the world is to grow our tiny humans into adult humans who are independent thinkers…Our world needs more adults who question and challenge and hold the powerful accountable.
-L.R. Knost

Here are some of my favorite insights from Martin Luther King, Jr. that apply to our work as early childhood leaders:

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education."

"All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence."

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

"A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus."

I was in an audience listening to Dr. King in Dallas, TX, 2 months before he was murdered in Memphis. Someone asked him -"Dr. King, you've had so many death threats, why do you keep on?" His short answer: "I don't want my death at 78 to be the belated anouncement of my earlier demise at 38.
