When we look to our early childhood peers around the world, we find inspiration for our own professional development, pedagogy, and even child care design.
A recently constructed German preschool was built to look like a giant cat.
"The architectural design choice has a level of quirkiness that befits a child's sense of humor and breadth of knowledge. The building is shaped to mimic a crouching kitty with its ears upright, looking as though it is ready to pounce at any moment. The circular windows at the front of the imaginative architecture serve as the enormous cat's eyes, whereas the tail in the back is actually a slide."
Naturally, there's more to designs like these than whimsy; educators know that inspiring spaces are key to learning and development.

Kind of reminds me of the dinners along route 66.

As with many of the modern and quirky architectural designs for childcare centers I, personally, find the interior and exterior play spaces to be cold and hard. The cat is certainly a fun building design, but in our program we aim to make our spaces cozy and more like home for children who are often in our care for 10 hours a day.
