Parks for the People
October 17, 2016
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
-Will Rogers, Actor and Commentator, 1879-1935

"Americans almost unanimously agree that their communities benefit from their local public parks, even if they themselves are not regular park users.  This passion for local public parks has gone unabated during the past 25 years, even as our nation and the ways we interact and entertain each other have dramatically evolved," according to a National Recreation and Park Association nationwide study report.

The study also finds that "4 in 5 Americans believe their local parks are well worth the average amount of $70 per person paid in local taxes every year with over 30% believing they are worth even more."

"Local parks remain at the core of what defines a healthy, prosperous, and connected community, and nothing related to technological advances and demographic shifts has altered that view.  If anything, the demographic, societal, and technological changes have heightened the need for the many benefits of parks; namely, being an important contributor to health and wellness, being a communal place where people of all ages and social strata can interact with each other, and being a place that protects and preserves high-priority conservation areas."
