Trudy has built five programs in Boise since 1976, and is well on her way in planning the next center. "Built" for Trudy does not mean hiring everything out to architects and contractors, but hauling gravel and laying flooring herself. When bids come in too high, she has her coffee breaks where the carpenters hang out and asks for advice. And she makes her money work hard by doing a lot of the work herself, by turning purchasing into a challenging game, and by utilizing resources that have been marked down or discarded.
Referring to her centers as her "project" Trudy emphasizes the ever-changing, ever-growing nature of her mission. If something needs to be done, you just do it; and you may not know at the beginning where your efforts will take you.
