Happenstance has been a friend of early childhood. Many of our best center directors did not start out with the goal of becoming directors, but unexpected events propelled them in that direction. Georgia Crosby is a prime example. Twenty years ago, Georgia accepted a job as a secretary at the campus child care center at Adams State College. Several months later, the center's director was fired and Georgia was appointed interim director. She has been a center director ever since!What has kept Georgia happily employed as a center director is not happenstance, it is her exuberance for working with families. She takes pride in knowing every child and every parent. In fact, she concludes, ". . . if there ever comes a day when I don't know every parent, I know my center is too big."
It is of the utmost importance to Georgia that parents and staff get to know each other on a personal level. She wants parents to feel comfortable with the staff - to trust the center. "I want parents to go to work knowing that their children are well cared for."
