"It's great to be from a quality center that is respected in the community," says Mary Ogan, director of the Early Childhood Education Program at James L. White Jewish Community Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mary has been director of the early childhood program for 12 years and was a teacher 10 years before that."When I was teaching here, my daughter Katie was a toddler and I could bring her with me. When she was in elementary school, she came here to the after-school program. Now, as a teenager, she works in the preschool in the summer." So, as others in the center have watched Mary grow, and her daughter as well, she has been watching children grow.
"It's really a wonderful experience, having people watch you grow up. This is really a family place. For many families and children, our program is their entry into the life of the Jewish Community Center. It's a challenge to keep that going, and we always need to think of things to keep children and their families here."
