According to surveys completed in 1999 in California regarding the need for child care and related services, it was discovered that approximately 604,549 children living in poverty required this help. And the numbers are increasing yearly. Approximately 12% of this population (or about 73,000 children) had special needs. While other agencies have found it increasingly difficult to provide direct services to these children, and many no longer do, Child and Family Services continues to be a leader in the field of early intervention.

"How do we extend ourselves to meet the needs of low-income families in inner city areas? With the overlay of poverty, even the normal necessities of living are exacerbated. I am committed to working with these families and providing them with the services they should have," states Duane Dennis, executive director of Child and Family Services.
