The story of CentroNía is the story of the vision, determination, and passion of Beatriz “BB” Otero, Founder and Executive Director. In April of 2006 CentroNía celebrates its 20th Anniversary; it began in 1986 as a child and family service organization educating 15 preschool children in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC. Originally called Calvary Bilingual Multicultural Learning Center the organization has grown continuously until today. BB Otero oversees a multi-million dollar budget with 50 funding sources and a staff of over 180 teachers, consultants, administrators, and youth who serve over 1,000 families and their children. CentroNía is a complex tapestry of integrated programs that meets diverse needs and maximizes opportunities for a multicultural constituency of low and moderate income working families.
