Exchange magazine launched the Exchange Leadership Initiative in November 2014, in order to heighten the visibility of leaders and leadership in our field. Doyens are a very special group of leaders held in high regard with a true place of respect as mentors. In coordination with our Exchange Strategic Partners and other national and international organizations who take responsibility for nominating Doyens, our recognition continues in this special feature.

As we acknowledge those who have given us the foundation on which we continue to build our profession, we are filled with appreciation and gratitude for their leadership, dedication, insight, and perseverance. These individuals are diverse in gender, race, life circumstances, culture, experience, age, and world view. They share a passion for children and families and for the field of early childhood education. Without them we would surely be less than we are today. With them, we build on what each of them offers, and together we are strong and resilient. We honor them for their personal and professional achievements on behalf of early care and education—and for their ongoing positive influence on all of us.
