Many child care providers transport children at one time or another. Whether they do so on a regular basis or for a one-time event, wise providers:

Reasons for transporting children

There are many different reasons why child care providers may transport children from one location to another. The most common include:

Transportation To and From School. Large child care centers may have a van or bus that they use to pick children up from their homes and drop them off at the end of the day. Sole child care providers may engage in pick-up and drop-off services to help the parents. Usually they use their own car when they do so.

Field Trips. Many child care providers find it intellectually stimulating to take children on excursions to museums, apple picking, to the swimming pool, to gymnastics, or other locations. Besides fulfilling learning objectives, field trips provide staff and children alike with a different set of stimuli and a change of routine that can be fun.
