USA's Health Care Headache
October 15, 2002

"Parents need all the help they can get. The strongest as well as the most fragile family requires a vital network of social supports."
—Bernice Weissbourd

USA'S HEALTH CARE HEADACHE

According to "The World in 2002" published by the Economist, only 15% of Americans say they have a great deal of confidence in their health-management organizations. No wonder when you compare the availability of care in various Western nations. The Economist reported the following number of hospital beds per 1,000 people:

Japan = 16.5
Norway = 14.2
Netherlands = 11.3
Hungary = 8.1
United Kingdom = 4.0
United States = 3.4
