The Forum creates a global meeting place where women and men from many cultures and nations will reflect on the value of gender balance in ECE, the benefits and barriers to men's full participation, and identification of actions to promote this important issue worldwide. Topics that will be addressed include the historical context for men in ECE, research on men in ECE, myths and stereotypes on men in ECE, constraints on achieving success in balancing gender, success stories and proven strategies for improving gender balance.

It's a shame to read these negative claims that male ECE's our thought as child molestors. I imagine these were very isolated incidence..but still shocking non the less. On a demographic scale. Men are currently in demand for ECE, because of two reasons... Fostering care to children looking for a male figure, not all children wish to entertain themselves with women ECE, it has a nice twist to it. #2 Male female roles are changing quickly, where women are the breadwinners and males are keeping the fort together and the marriage. Looks to me as an upcomming field. Thks.
Self Employed in ECE

I have graduated College in Ontario, Canada,
in the Early Childhood Education program 10+ years ago.
Now I have worked my way through to be employed as a "Mother's Helper". Here I provide care for Newborns,
Infants and young children. Most often there are other older siblings in the family. I encourage both growth & development of the children while I am providing care.
Because I am self employed in this type of work, it may become difficult to be at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 20 - 23, 2008 for the conference. But this is my goal.

Interesting reading in ExchangeEveryDay today.... one real reason why there are so few men, other than pay scale, is that men are viewed as probable child molesters by so many mothers.... I consel men not to work in ECE, but if they do, to take extreme EXTREME precautions when coming into close proximity to young children, and to never ever let themselves be in any room or space alone with a child.... I have experienced 12 cases of accusations toward male employees, none of which were founded, and in all but 1 case, the abuser was found to be a family member... but moms are not willing to admit that their loved ones could do that, and blame anyone close by....
