President Signs Child Care Bill
November 21, 2014
There is really nothing more to say — except why. But since why is difficult to handle, one must take refuge in how.
-Toni Morrison, The Bluest Eye

On Wednesday, President Obama signed the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act of 2014 into law.  The law, which Congress passed with strong bipartisan support, reauthorizes the child care program for the first time since 1996 and represents an historic re-envisioning of the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) program.  You can watch video of the signing here.

This historic legislation will have a great impact on our field.  In upcoming issues of Exchange, the Early Care and Education Consortium (ECEC) will explore the implications of this act on existing early childhood programs as well as provide an ongoing assessment on implementation of the act.

Hurray! Yippee! Early childhood education is finally being recognized and respected by
President Obama actively engaging in the issue and the government taking positive action to support our American children's future, which means our future, as a nation!
Wow!
