Mastering the Art of Getting It Done
June 6, 2017
We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men.
-Herman Melville, 1819-1892, author

"Do you put off doing things that are really important to you? Do you feel anxious or guilty because you just can't get yourself to do what you know you need or want to do? Is your procrastination driving your family, friends and/or coworkers a little crazy?"

These great questions are posed by Rita Emmet in the Work & Family Life June Newsletter. Emmet shares these insights and suggestions:

"Procrastination is a problem for many people. It can take a surprisingly high toll on our lives, causing stress, illness and feelings of low self-esteem. It can also keep us from achieving our goals and fulfilling our dreams.

The first step in conquering a procrastination problem is to cultivate the attitude: 'I'm just going to do my best and it may not be perfect.'

Ask yourself, 'What if my worst fear came true?' Making a mistake or looking stupid could make you feel bad but it will not kill you.

Chances are, you would survive it—and it may not be as bad as the misery and frustration you feel as a procrastinator."
