Innovation and Creativity Boost Job Satisfaction
November 26, 2019
I am mentally preparing myself for the five-year-old mind. I want to come down to their physical limitations and up to their sense of wonder and awe.
-Shinichi Suzuki

“People may show up for work, but are they engaged and productive?” asks an article on the website, chartcourse.com. The article provides five ways to increase job satisfaction, including an encouragement to support innovation and creativity:People are more committed and engaged when there is a process for them to contribute their ideas and employee suggestions. This gives them a sense of ownership and pride in their work. The Sony Corporation fosters the exchange of ideas within departments by sponsoring an annual Idea Exposition. During the exposition, scientists and engineers display projects and ideas they are working on. Open only to Sony’s employees, this process creates a healthy climate of innovation and engages all those who participate.”

In the early childhood arena, the new book, Treasures in the Thicket, by Bethica Quinn and Rosalina Rodriguez (part of the Reimagining Our Work collection, and a companion to Ann Pelo and Margie Carter’s best selling work, From Teaching to Thinking) demonstrates how creativity and innovation inspire educators. In a testimonial about the book, Christina Aubel, Child Studies Instructor at Bates Technical College writes: “We need more teachers like Bethica and Rosalina, willing to revive their own creativity through reflective practice in order to keep pace with the creative spirit of young children.”
