Anita, thank you for your comment and reflection from your experience with toddlers. I think about this a lot as an adult too and how to make my life more involved with nature. I grew up with a manufactured environment and can definitely tell that affected me by not wanting to get dirty or sit in grass. Thank you!

One of my favorite scenes from the movie, “Legends of the Fall” is in the beginning when the the narrator talks about his education he received playing in the woods and by the water with his brother.
I am currently working with toddlers. One of the things that saddens me the most is that most centers keep a very clean, grass and tree droppings free playground for the younger children. I know we have to be aware of choking hazards and such but they miss out on so much in these manufactured environments.
