Seeking New Exchange Leaders for 2022
February 28, 2022
I don’t have a feeling of inferiority. Never had. I’m as good as anybody, but no better.
-Katherine Johnson (1918-2020), NASA Mathematician

Today, we share a message from Pam Boulton inviting you to help identify and recommend individuals for the 2022 cohort of Exchange Leaders. The deadline for applications is March 28.

The Exchange Leadership Initiative (ELI) was started in 2015 to acknowledge and honor the many leaders in our field. We recognize and celebrate them each year in the July/August issue of Exchange magazine. As we have in the past, we call on Early Care and Education professionals to participate in recommending new Exchange Leadership Initiatives members for our 2022 cohort.

Exchange Leaders:

are well-grounded in their own work and are using their strengths and advocacy skills to make a difference for children, families, and their communities.

engage in work that addresses issues around young children and families and early care and education

understand strong early care and education principles and practices, address diversity and equity, and are engaged in life-long learning.

work collaboratively and with personal initiative to build networks around key issues and demonstrate perseverance in pursuing difficult objectives.

We have a wide, deep field—diverse and inclusive. We need ALL our leaders. We need to encourage others we see leading whether they are just beginning to lead or have been doing so for years. We especially need to invite our colleagues who are Black or Brown and/or bring diverse ethnicities because in our white dominant culture they are often marginalized. By our encouragement and invitation, we acknowledge and celebrate that we see others than ourselves leading. Help us to find those leaders who may not see our announcements in Exchange magazine or ExchangeEveryDay or who may not know that this is for them.

While Exchange Leader applicants must complete the application themselves, we invite you to encourage the application of individuals who you believe fit the criteria. We have added an opportunity for you to "send a recommendation" to someone you see is leading. You will enter their name and email, your name and a brief message from you and we will invite them to apply on your behalf.

With appreciation,
Pam Boulton
Coordinator, Exchange Leadership Initiative
