Delegation as a Lifeline for Leaders

One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.
Author, Gretchen Rubin

Debra Sullivan, in Leading Early Childhood Organizationswrites about how very beneficial it can be for a leader to learn to delegate effectively. She explains:

“Spreading leadership broad and deep results in a more inclusive process that represents everyone and provides the leader with the opportunity to:
  • not worry,
  • not have to be in charge of everything,
  • not have to work alone,
  • begin to recognize, appreciate, support, and make use of the leadership potential of those who surround us (very important)."

Jesse Sostrin, in a Harvard Business Review article, “To Be a Great Leader, You Have to Learn How to Delegate Well” has this to say about delegation: “One of the most difficult transitions for leaders to make is the shift from doing to leading…You need to be more essential and less involved.”
