Training Outcomes:

  1. Teachers will list the health benefits of breastfeeding.
  2. Teachers will describe the emotional benefits of breastfeeding.
  3. Teachers will demonstrate ways to support breastfeeding mothers by providing an open invitation to breastfeed during the day, provide a private, comfortable place to breastfeed, and providing labeled baskets in the freezer for the storage of frozen breast milk.
  4. Teachers will share information about breastfeeding benefits with others in their school communities.

These training outcomes address the following professional standards:

  • C-3a, C-3b, C4-a, C-4b, C-6a, C-9a, C-9b, and C-9d of the Accreditation Criteria and Procedures of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC, 1998)
  • Standard 2a-c of NAEYC Standards for Early Childhood Professional Preparation, Initial Licensure Level (NAEYC, 2003)
  • 1304. 40(a)(1), 1304.40(c)(3), and 1304. 40(d)(2) of Head Start Performance Standards (Federal Register, Nov. 5, 1996, Volume 61, Number 215).
