Here we are, eight months after the first article on using computers with children ("Getting Started with Computers and Children," January/February 1995), and, as promised, here's an update. As we predicted, there are many more good software titles on the market that will keep your kids busy and learning at the same time. We'll get to them toward the end of this article. Most newsworthy is the arrival of the "next generation" of computers, so if you are finally planning to purchase a new computer, now may be an excellent time. But be sure to check our latest set of "minimum requirements" to avoid possible problems and to make the best use of your money.

The New Computers: Faster, Better, and Cheaper

Clearly the biggest news in computers is the new operating system called Windows 95.
