ISTE / NCATE Standards for Educational Technology Programs

It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.
Erma Bombeck

Chip Donohue offers this technology update:

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) provides leadership to improve teaching and learning by advancing the effective use of technology in K-12 education and teacher education.

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is the official body for accrediting teacher preparation programs in the US.  Together, ISTE and NCATE have developed National Standards for Technology in Teacher Preparation.

The standards include curriculum guidelines for preparation in the specialty, educational computing, and related technologies (http://cnets.iste.org/ncate/) and Unit guidelines for infrastructure affecting all professional education programs.

The standards are based on the belief that educational computing and technology foundations are essential for all teachers.  The standards are intended to guide teacher education units and professional organizations and agencies in understanding and evaluating the educational preparation needed for specialization within the field.

To read the ISTE / NCATE Standards for Educational Technology Programs and to access the current standards and review process go to http://cnets.iste.org/ncate/.
