Remember that place is one of the four pillars of security (along with people, routine, and ritual). The worst time to contemplate change is when the program is undergoing changes in people (staff, children) or routines.
When you do need to change, involve the children in the transformation. It is less unsettling when you are present and a part of the change.
Avoid radical change that requires a new set of behaviors and rules, particularly if the setting includes children (or teachers) who depend on predictable environments to maintain their sense of security and competence. Change a piece at a time.
