Your Neighborhood Library Awaits!

There's a big difference between showing interest and really taking interest.

Yesterday, you visited your local library. Today, you log onto the Internet and find a new neighborhood — next door at the Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Development in Canada. Learn about what other colleagues across the border are thinking about early care and education. And find it in English and French, the two languages of Canada.

“The mission of the Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Development (CEECD) is to improve our knowledge of the social and emotional development of young children.” Their Encyclopedia on Early Childhood Development emphasizes the importance of early childhood development under a wide range of categories that include aggression, attachment, autism, eating behaviour, fetal alcohol syndrome, Head Start policy, nutrition and pregnancy, obesity, parental leave, and many other topics.

Here we find data about children and parents that pertain to Canadian families, and find critical articles by Jay Belsky, Carollee Howes, Margaret Tresch Owen, Bengt-Erik Andersson, and Kathleen McCartney. W. Steven Barnett comments on several of the articles. Featured articles by James J. Heckman, University of Chicago, and David Dodge, Ottawa, Canada, are included on the web site.
