Nature Restores

Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility.
Eleanor Roosevelt

"The exposure to nature restores our cognitive functions, enabling us to concentrate better," writes Stephan Mayer, professor of psychology at Oberlin University in Ode Magazine (September 2011).

In one experiment that convinced Mayer of the restorative value of nature, Mayer assigned students to focus on solving a problem.  The group was split into three sections: one spent time in nature, another watched a nature video, while the third watched a video filmed in an urban area.

The result: "The group that spent time in nature was able to solve the problem, while the other two groups didn't show much progress."
