"Your inner child can kill public speaking jitters," writes Kathy Pedzek in Psychology Today (October 2011).  She observes that "calling up specific memories affects the way you think of yourself....  For instance, if you can remember a time when you successfully spoke in front of a crowd, you're more likely to believe you're a good public speaker.  It reframes the issue in terms of successful experiences with that behavior."

Pedzek reported on experiments that demonstrated that true autobiographical memories boost one's ego and in turn, one's performance.
