Victory for Children

Nature has given us two ears but only one mouth.
Benjamin Disraeli

At the opening of the 2014 World Forum on Early Care and Education in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Pia Britto, head of Early Childhood Development at UNICEF, challenged the 841 delegates in attendance to go online and sign a petition to put early childhood on the United Nations post-2015 agenda to push the total number of signatories above the goal of 10,000. And, by the close of the World Forum the total had exceeded 10,000! Then on December 4, Britto announced that we had succeeded and that the Secretary General of the United Nations had included early childhood in his report, "The Road to Dignity by 2030: Ending Poverty, Transforming All Lives and Protecting the Planet."

But the work is not yet done. UNESCO's Abbie Raikes tells us that the next phase of the campaign is to have measurable and appropriate educational targets accepted into the Road to Dignity plan. ;A Technical Advisory Group on measurement has been established by UNESCO and is requesting feedback on "the proposed indicators —whether the proposed indicators are perceived as being aligned with the target language, whether other indicators are available, and if so, what would be recommended."

Information on this process can be found here.  Please share your comments no later than January 30, 2015 (with a plea to send something in by January 15).
