Being in the Moment

Empathy has no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgment, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of ‘You’re not alone.’
Brené Brown

"Picture how a quiet moment affects your brain. Do you know that serene feeling when your worries take a vacation, no matter how briefly?" This question was asked by Holly Elissa Bruno in The Comfort of Little Things.  She advises:

"Can't sit still long enough to meditate? I empathize. Trust me; my mind boomerangs like popcorn in a hot popcorn popper when I try to sit still and let go of those thoughts.

"But meditation comes in many forms, and not all of these forms require lengthy sitting. Walking mindfully is another form of meditating. Daily I walk the neighborhoods of my old — but new to me — New England mill town, looking up for an architectural whimsy: a duck-shaped wind vane or perhaps an unexpected stained glass entryway. Notice where you are in the moment, whether you are moving or holding still, and you are meditating. Just notice where you are. Check your heart rate. Your steadiness may surprise you."
