Do You Suffer from FOMO?

It always seems impossible until it is done.
Nelson Mandela, 1918 – 2013, South African anti-apartheid leader

FOMO means literally "fear of missing out."  And it is a cause for sadness bordering on depression for many particularly in younger generations.  A posting in the bakadesuyo blog expands the definition to "the uneasy and sometimes all-consuming fear that you're missing out - that your peers are doing, in the know about, or in possession of more or something better than you...It leads you to check social media again and again so your don't feel out of the loop."

The blog post indicates that the cure is attention - taking your attention away from social media and in focusing elsewhere.  "Happiness is determined by how your allocate your attention...Enhancing happiness is as much about withholding your attention from the negative as it is about attending to the positive."
