• Assess the Situation. It is in your best interest to develop an understanding of the culture that already exists.
• Go Slowly. More than anything, your staff and the families you serve want to know who you are and what you are about.
• Find Your Tribe. While it’s essential to build relationships with your staff and families, you must also remember that they can’t be your only support system.
• Get to Know Your Stakeholders.
• Don’t Give Up. Leading an early childhood program is a marathon, not a sprint and you have to be prepared for the long haul.
• Practice Self-care.
