Occupational Standards for Practitioners

"There are three things extremely hard:  steel, a diamond, and to know one’s self." - Benjamin Franklin

Occupational Standards for Practitioners

The Canadian Child Care Federation (CCCF) recently published Occupational Standards for Child Care Practioners by Gillian Doherty.  The publication identifies standards for caregivers in four areas:

*  Caring for children and promoting their development
*  Relationships with children's families
*  Relationships with others in the child care setting
*  Maintaining one's skill and knowledge

In each area the publication outlines standards, required skills and abilities, and required core knowledge.  In addition, the publication includes a Code of Ethics for child care practitioners adapted by CCCF.
