The Tsunami and Young Children

"The mosquito is little—but when he sings, your ears are full of him." - Proverb from Mauritius

The Tsunami and Young Children

News continues to pour in from South East Asia with the projected death toll, considering immediate deaths and expected deaths due to related health issues, exceeding 300,000.  Members of the World Forum community have been sharing their ideas on how we can respond in an useful long term way to the children and families left behind with so little immediate hope.

While the members of the World Forum International Organizing Committee shape an appropriate response, there are some meaningful steps you can take right now.  The web site of World Forum Alliance member Christian Children's Fund (http://www.christianchildrensfund.org/) provides you with field reports from CCF representatives and offers a means of donating to support their efforts.

In addition, as we have noted before, Save the Children is creating the Asia Earthquake/Tidal Wave Relief Fund to assist children and families impacted by the earthquake and the resulting tidal waves. For more information about this fund, go to http://www.savethechildren.org.

Finally, World Forum Alliance member, Early Childhood Australia, has posted some ideas on how to talk to children in your centers about this tragedy.  To download these ideas, go to: http://www.earlychildhoodaustralia.org.au/news_tsunami.htm
