The phone rang and when I answered I heard the voice of a little girl saying, "Mommy, I want to go home." I told her I wasn't her mommy but I would enjoy talking with her. She said that her name was Tammie, that she was five years old, that she was in kindergarten, that she had fallen on the playground and had to go to the hospital.

It seemed that she had dialed the correct phone number but not the correct area code. The nurse came on the line and said that she would dial the number, so we said goodbye and I thought no more about it.

The next evening the same thing happened. I asked her how things were going and she said that she still wanted to go home and she was afraid. I told her that when I was a little girl I had to be in the hospital because I had a broken leg and that I, too, was afraid and wanted to go home. I told her I would write and tell her all about it.

A few days later, Tammie's mother phoned to tell me Tammie was going home and ...
