Global Leaders for Arab Region MeetAbu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates • September 2013
Coordinator Maysoun Chehab orchestrated a powerful meeting of Global Leaders for the Arab Region (GLAR) on September 15�"18 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emerates. One of the factors that made the meeting such a powerful opportunity is that it was held in conjunction with the Regional ECCE Meeting of Experts with representatives of ministries and NGOs from 14 Arab countries. Not only did the Global Leaders benefit from their training sessions, but they also had leaders in the region addressing ECE policies and strategies, ECCE indicators in the region, and the impact of the Syrian conflict on children and families. The reports of Maysoun Chehab representing UNESCO’s regional bureau in Beirut, and Dr. Fadi Yarak, Director General for the Ministry of Education in Lebanon, were particularly moving as they discussed the challenge of integrating Syrian refugee children into the Lebanese public school system �" with Syrian children outnumbering Lebanese children in many schools.
