Princess Lalla Salma Promotes Value of Education

Children laugh with each other in a way that we have forgotten.
Gigi Schweikert from her book, Teacher Tips

Her Royal Highness, Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco, delivering a strong message in her recent address to the 34th General Conference of UNESCO, spoke of her support of education in achieving interfaith and intercultural coexistence.  The Princess insisted that “this ambition will remain but a hollow promise as long as education - notably human rights education, and especially the sacred right to live in security and dignity - will not have received all the attention it deserves, and as long as ignorance, ostracism, fanaticism and terrorism have not been vanquished.”

In appealing to the international community to “bolster the role of UNESCO to fight the demons of the clash of civilization,” she emphasized education’s capacity “to prevent the forces of evil from transforming poverty and illiteracy into the seeds of hate, resentment and violence.”   To learn more about this address, go to http://portal.unesco.org
