Authors Sandra Duncan and Michelle Salcedo make this analogy in their article, "Are Your Children in Times Square?" which serves as the basis for the "Out of the Box" Training Kit, "Building Environments and Activities to Engage Children." The authors assert that, "regardless of age or stage, all children need non-confining and ample space to promote not only physical development but cognitive and social development as well."
