Smooth Transitions from Preschool to Kindergarten

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. That, more or less, is the short answer to the supposedly incredibly complicated and confusing question of what we humans should eat in order to be maximally healthy.

"Understanding school readiness as a developmental process and how preschool aligns with K-12 education is the beginning of providing a quality early learning environment that fosters kindergarten readiness and success in school," writes Carol A. Osborn in a recent Exchange magazine article.

"One thing teachers can do to understand kindergarten expectations is to visit their neighborhood school to learn what will be taught to their preschoolers when they arrive. By using strategies like reading aloud every day, having classroom conversations, careful observation, and facilitating stimulating experiences for the children in their care, preschool teachers will prepare their students for kindergarten and beyond."

Osborn asserts that: "Instead of saying what can we do to get them ready for the future, the more pertinent question might be: 'What are children wanting to know and ready to learn now, and how do I support this emergent quest for knowledge in the early years?'"
